The Definition of IgA Kidney Disease/Berger's Disease
Pathologic Change.
The levels of pathologic change of IgA Nephropathy are various. At the early stage, it shows mild pathologic change, which is described as “focal”. At that time, only a few glomeruli can be found mild mesangial broadened and segmental proliferation. At the middle stage of IgA Nephropathy, the pathologic change will become more obvious. Diffuse mesangial proliferation can be found and cresent is rare to see.
Clinical manifestation.
In clinic, IgA Nephropathy mainly presents as microscopic or gross Hematuria and/ or accompanied with proteinuria. A part of patients may appear to have nephrotic syndrome. Normally, IgA Nephropathy progresses slowly and eventually it will develop into uremia.
Common Knowledge of IgA Nephropathy.
IgA Nephropathy, or Berger’s Disease, refers in particular to a group of chronic glomerular diseases, which has similar pathological characteristics. In clinic, about 40%~45% of patients manifest as gross or microscopic Hematuria. 35%~40% of patients can appear to have microscopic Hematuria accompanied by proteinuria. The rest patients usually present nephrotic syndrome and renal failure.
Generally speaking, man has a greater possibility to have IgA Nephropathy that woman. As the pathologic levels and the damaged levels of glomeruli are various, patients should keep a sharp eye on the frequency of Hematuria, severity of proteinuria, blood pressure and renal injury. And then choose a right treatment according your own condition.
